Job Details

This early 1900s home located in Glen Head, NY was originally roofed with cedar shakes. Homes built during this time were constructed before asphalt shingles were available on the market. So what did they use in those days? Wood Shingles!

These roofs are not your standard "rip-and-replace". Anytime there is an original layer of cedar on the house you can guarantee a long work day. It is extremely difficult to remove, clean, and haul away. Not to mention, every cedar rip MUST get new plywood to provide a solid nailing surface for the new shingle system.

Working on old homes can mean a whole slew of different obstacles. This one came riddled with impossible pitches, sloping driveway, and multiple dormers to flash and waterproof. We also did this one during a time of year where the sun is no where to be found by about 4:00 pm! Despite the added difficulties, this 2,100 square foot roof was done and property cleaned all in one day.

Our customer has since began multiple interior repairs that were caused by the last roof. Almost all of them due to poorly executed flashing on the dormers or flashing where roofing and stucco meet. Happy to have served another wonderful customer and create a long lasting relationship.
