This project in **Setauket, NY** involved much more than simply replacing shingles. The homeowners hired Ready Roof for a **complete roof replacement and full re-deck**, meaning every sheet of existing roof decking was removed and replaced with new plywood.
Because the roof rafters were spaced approximately **24 inches on center**, we installed **thicker plywood** to provide a stronger, more rigid roof deck and help prevent sagging or visible dips between the framing.
The home also had solar panels, which were removed by the homeowner’s solar company before our work began. One of the homeowner’s biggest concerns was that several gutter sections below the solar arrays were pulling away from the house.
Once the roof and gutters were removed, we discovered the problem went beyond the gutters themselves. In several areas, the **fascia boards were actually pulling away from the roof rafters**. With framing spaced roughly two feet apart, the fascia had limited fastening points, and the original smooth-shank nails did not provide enough holding power for the added weight of the gutters, water, snow and ice coming off the solar panels.
We documented the issue and showed the homeowners what we found. Wherever possible, we reinforced the fascia using **exterior-grade screws** to provide significantly more holding strength.
Some sections of fascia were more compromised than others, but with a full roof replacement, complete re-deck and full gutter replacement already underway, completely rebuilding all of the fascia was outside the available budget. Instead, we worked with the homeowners to develop a practical solution that provided much stronger support without unnecessarily expanding the project.
The new gutters were installed using **special stainless-steel hangers** that allowed us to secure the system through the fascia and into the new roof decking, rather than relying only on the existing fascia boards. We also installed **gutter wedges** where necessary so the gutters could sit properly and drain correctly while reducing unnecessary stress on the attachment points.
Many of these conditions could only be fully understood after the existing roofing and gutters were removed. Throughout the project, we kept the homeowners informed, explained the issues as they were uncovered and worked within their budget to find the best path forward.
The finished project included a **completely new roof deck, new roofing system, reinforced fascia attachment points and a new gutter system designed around the unique conditions of the home and its solar installation**.
